Maintain Proper Water Balance

The water in your pool needs to be perfectly balanced. This means it should have the right pH and acidic/alkaline balance. You must also adjust the levels of calcium, chlorine, salt, and cyanuric acid.

Ideally, pool water pH should be around 7.2 to 7.8. Total alkalinity must not go below 80 ppm and above 120 ppm. Calcium hardness should be 100 to 400 ppm. Make sure there are no stain-producing minerals in the water, such as copper, manganese, or iron.

Alkalinity is one of the most important factors to consider. If it’s out of whack, the water pH will vary greatly. This may cause extensive damage to the pool finish, plumbing fixtures, and accessories. Plus, you may experience eye irritation. If you notice any scales or your pool has cloudy water, high alkalinity might be the culprit.
